Mexican Modern Cloisonné Ashtray by Pepe Mendoza

$180 / week

José Mendoza ran a foundry called Pepe Mendoza in the 1950s and 60s in Mexico City, manufacturing modernist home accessories using a modified cloissonné technique more suited to the tastes of the day. On offer is a rectangular ashtray with stripes and triangles in brass against a field of turquoise vitreous enamel. Two wavy brass cigarette rests projects from opposite corners of the ashtray, and the slightly bowed piece sits on a flat brass foot. Condition: Excellent original condition. Brass has an irregular patina and pictured losses correspond to use. Gently cleaned to preserve patina. Dimensions: 6" length x 3.75" width x 1.5" height
